What is Google Analytics 4?
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the latest version of Google's web analytics platform. It replaces Universal Analytics and offers improved tracking, better cross-platform measurement, and privacy-focused data collection.

How to Set Up Google Analytics 4
Step 1: Create a GA4 Property
- Go to analytics.google.com
- Click "Admin" in the bottom left
- Click "Create Property"
- Enter your property name and configure settings
- Click "Create" and accept the terms of service
Step 2: Add the Tracking Code
Choose one of two methods:
Method A: Direct Installation
- Copy your Measurement ID (looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX)
- Add the Global Site Tag to your website's
<head>section
Method B: Google Tag Manager (Recommended)
- Add GA4 Configuration tag in GTM
- Publish the container
- Test using GA4 DebugView
Step 3: Configure Data Streams
- Select "Web" as your platform
- Enter your website URL
- Enable Enhanced Measurement for automatic event tracking
Step 4: Set Up Conversions
- Navigate to Admin > Events
- Mark important events as conversions
- Common conversions: form submissions, purchases, sign-ups
Verify Your Installation
Use GA4's DebugView to confirm data is flowing correctly. Visit your website and check that sessions and events appear in real-time.
