What an offshore call center is
Offshore means the team works on another continent. Our offshore locations are the Philippines, India and Egypt, all many hours ahead of US time.
The model grew because it lowers labor cost and makes round-the-clock cover practical. When it’s night in Chicago, it’s daytime in Manila, so an offshore team can answer overnight calls on a normal day shift.
Philippines, India or Egypt: choosing by queue
We choose the country queue by queue. A voice line for US consumers, a technical helpdesk and a multilingual email queue can each sit somewhere different, under the same contract and the same reporting.
The Philippines has a large, long-established contact-center industry built around US consumer brands, and agents used to American English on the phone. It’s a common home for voice support.
India has a large English-speaking technical workforce. It suits tech support, back office and work that follows detailed process steps.
Egypt sits closest to Europe and the Middle East, which helps if your customers are there too. English and Arabic are the core languages; other languages depend on the site, so ask us before you plan a queue around one.
| The Philippines | India | Egypt |
| Time zone | UTC+8, no daylight saving | UTC+5:30, no daylight saving | UTC+2; UTC+3 in summer |
| Hours ahead of US Eastern | 12 to 13 | 9.5 to 10.5 | 6 to 7 |
| Languages | English | English | English and Arabic; others depend on the site |
| Strong fit | Voice support for US consumers | Tech support, back office, process-heavy work | Multilingual queues; European or Middle East customers |

What an offshore team can handle
Offshore teams handle inbound support, outbound calling, technical support and back office. The fit is strongest where the work is well documented, the volume is steady and the hours fall outside the US day.
Typical queues include overnight and weekend cover, overflow at peak times, order and account changes, email and chat backlogs, and data work such as claims processing or record updates.
How handoffs work
Most offshore programs share the clock with a daytime team, yours or a nearshore one. The handoff is where quality slips, so we write it down with you before the first shift. Customers shouldn’t have to explain their problem twice because the clock changed.
- A handoff note at the end of every shift: volumes, anything unusual and what changed in the process.
- An open-issue list with an owner and a next step for every case still in progress.
- A written list of what the night team can decide alone, such as a refund under a set amount, and what has to wait for the day team.
- An escalation path for the few things that can’t wait, with a named person on call on your side.
- Where the schedules allow, a short live overlap so one shift lead can brief the next.
Benefits and trade-offs
Offshore is the lowest-cost model, below both nearshore and onshore. It also gives you overnight cover without paying for night shifts at home, and large labor pools make it easier to add agents for seasonal peaks.
The trade-offs are real. You share fewer working hours, so live coaching and fast process changes are harder. Written processes matter more, because the team will often act on them while you’re asleep. Fit varies by queue: a team that’s excellent on billing questions may struggle with an emotional retention call.
Spanish is the clearest limit. The Philippines, India and Egypt are English-first markets, so Spanish-language queues belong nearshore.
Offshore vs nearshore vs onshore
The strongest setups use a blend: nearshore for daytime, bilingual and complex queues, offshore for overnight, overflow, high-volume and back-office work. We offer onshore case by case.
| Onshore | Nearshore | Offshore |
| Relative cost | Highest | Middle | Lowest |
| Overlap with US hours | Full | Most or all of the day | Limited; suits overnight |
| Spanish-language queues | Depends on market | Strong | Limited |
| Best for | Regulated or US-resident work | Daytime, bilingual and complex queues | Overnight, overflow, high volume, back office |
How we keep quality visible
Distance makes quality harder to see, so we measure all of it. Every team runs AI triage to route contacts, agent-assist during conversations, and automated QA that scores every interaction rather than a small sample. You see the same dashboards we do, at whatever hour suits you.
QA checks every call against your rules. Your counsel sets those rules, including what data may leave the country and how payments are taken, and we turn them into lines on the scorecard.
How to choose an offshore partner
Decide which queues go offshore before you compare providers. Then test each provider on those queues specifically.
Start small. One queue with agreed targets shows you how a team handles your work, your documents and your handoffs before you commit more.
- Ask which country would run each queue, and why that country fits it.
- Listen to recorded calls on work similar to yours, at the hours you need covered.
- Ask how your process documents become training, and who keeps them current.
- Ask to see a sample handoff note and the list of decisions the night team can make alone.
- Start with one queue and agree the measures that decide whether it grows.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between offshore and nearshore teams?
Offshore teams work far away, usually many hours ahead of the US. Nearshore teams work in a nearby country with similar hours: for us, Mexico and Colombia. Offshore costs less, while nearshore shares more of your working day. Many programs use both, with nearshore taking daytime and bilingual queues and offshore covering nights, overflow and back office.
How much does an offshore call center cost compared with nearshore?
Offshore usually costs less than nearshore, and both cost less than onshore. The real number depends on the language, hours, call complexity and channels in scope. Compare quotes for the same queue with the same service levels. Then add the cost of handoffs and written process work, because offshore asks more of both.
Is the Philippines or India better for a call center?
It depends on the work. The Philippines is a common home for voice support to US consumers, with a long-established industry built around US brands. India suits tech support, back office and process-heavy queues. We choose by queue, and the best test is recorded calls on work like yours, at the hours you need covered.
What hours do offshore agents work?
Mostly their own daytime, which falls in the US night. Manila is 12 to 13 hours ahead of US Eastern time, so a day shift there covers the US overnight. India is 9.5 to 10.5 hours ahead, and Egypt 6 to 7. Night shifts there are possible too, but they cut against the main reason to go offshore.
How do handoffs work between offshore and US teams?
Through a written handoff at every shift change. The outgoing team leaves a note on volumes and anything unusual, plus an open-issue list with an owner for each case. A separate list sets what the night team can decide alone and what waits for your day team. We agree all of this with you before the first shift.
Can an offshore team handle Spanish-language calls?
Rarely well. The Philippines, India and Egypt are English-first markets, and Spanish speakers are scarce there. We run Spanish-language queues from Mexico and Colombia instead, and AI triage routes calls by language at the first touch. If you need Spanish at night too, put it in the brief, and we’ll plan how that queue gets covered.
Can an offshore team handle payments or sensitive data?
It can, but the controls depend on the site and on your rules. Your counsel decides what data can leave the country and how card details are taken. Ask us which controls a given partner center has in place, and ask any provider for documents rather than a yes. QA checks every call against your rules, but it isn’t a guarantee.
How do you manage quality across time zones?
Automated QA scores every interaction, and you see the same dashboards we do, at whatever hour suits you. Clear written processes and regular calibration sessions keep the team aligned between live check-ins. When scores dip on a queue, you see it within days, and we trace it back to specific calls instead of waiting for a monthly report.
