Project Goals

Build secure private REST API platform for worldwide media distribution from major entertainment studios, create on-site integration solutions for custom network and storage systems, ensure reliable global delivery of high-value media assets, and support automated workflows for advertising, trailers, and feature films across multiple distributors.

The Problem

When Warner Brothers distributes a trailer globally, Disney launches a new film or Sony releases an ad across markets, that content moves through infrastructure like Extreme Reach's media distribution API.

The manual process it replaced was slow, error-prone and hard to scale.

The major studios needed secure, automated distribution. But each studio had its own network architecture, proprietary storage systems and specific security requirements.

You can't build one API and call it done. You have to integrate with each studio's infrastructure, one by one.

The Challenge

This wasn't a SaaS product where everyone uses the same interface. It was enterprise integration, where every client is different.

Studio Requirements

Each major studio had its own setup: custom network architectures (often air-gapped for security), proprietary storage, internal approval workflows and specific security policies.

The files were huge, too. Feature films and high-resolution ads run to gigabytes per file.

Security Requirements

This is unreleased content, and a leak is expensive for everyone involved. Security came before every other requirement.

That meant encrypted transfer, secure storage, access controls, audit logging and support for forensic watermarking, all documented and all auditable.

Global Distribution

The content had to reach TV networks around the world, cinema chains for trailers, online platforms, regional distributors and local broadcasters. Each destination had its own formats and delivery requirements.

What We Built

We built a REST API platform for media distribution, then deployed custom integrations at each major studio.

The Core API

The API handled the distribution workflow from ingest to delivery confirmation. It covered authentication and authorization per studio, resumable uploads for large files, chunk-based transfer with validation, and metadata management with versioning.

On top of that came distribution orchestration, format transcoding where needed, geographic routing and delivery tracking. The point was to manage the whole workflow, not just to move files from one place to another.

On-Site Integration

For the major studios, we deployed on-site inside their secure networks. We connected directly to their storage arrays, integrated with their approval workflows, adapted to their security policies and built connectors for their internal systems.

Warner Brothers

We installed the platform inside Warner Brothers' secure network, connected it to internal storage, integrated their approval workflows and automated delivery to their global distributors.

Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures needed connectivity into an air-gapped network, custom authentication, integration with their asset management systems and format conversion pipelines.

Disney

Disney's integration focused on high security for unreleased content, coordination of multi-region distribution, integration with localization workflows and real-time status reporting.

Each integration was different, and each studio got what its setup required.

Security Layer

Security ran through every layer. All communication used TLS, on-site deployments connected over VPN, and access was locked down with IP allowlists and firewall rules. Stored content was encrypted at rest.

Access was role-based, administrators used multi-factor authentication, every action was written to an audit log, and DRM was integrated where a studio required it. All of it was documented for the studios' own compliance reviews.

Distribution Network

Geographic storage nodes handled regional delivery, with CDN integration for the final hop, automated routing logic and delivery verification. Redundant paths, automatic retries, failure notifications and round-the-clock monitoring kept deliveries moving when something went wrong along the way.

How It Works

Studios upload content through the API, and the platform handles everything from there.

Content is stored securely, metadata is captured and validated, and distribution instructions are processed. Transcoding happens automatically if a destination needs a different format, and routing picks the delivery path.

Each delivery is confirmed and tracked from start to finish, and problems are detected and reported as they happen. Work that used to need manual coordination between teams now runs automatically.

The Results

Major studios integrated (Warner Brothers, Sony, Disney). All three used the platform for critical content distribution.

Global media distribution automation. Manual handoffs were replaced with automated workflows, from upload to confirmed delivery.

Custom network integration solutions. On-site deployments met the specific network, storage and security requirements of each studio.

Secure API for high-value content. Every delivery was confirmed and tracked, with automatic retries, failure notifications and monitoring around the clock.

What We Learned

Enterprise integration is a relationship business. Working with major studios takes technical skill plus an understanding of their business, politics and processes. You're not just a vendor; you're handling their most valuable assets.

On-site deployment builds trust. For high-security clients, deploying inside their infrastructure shows commitment. You're operating on their terms, in their environment.

Reliability beats features. The studios valued consistent, error-free delivery over clever capabilities. When content absolutely has to reach its destination, the boring, reliable solution wins.

Custom service has value. Custom integration and dedicated support justified premium pricing and long-term contracts. Taking each client's specific needs seriously pays off.

API design is user experience. Developer-friendly APIs sped up integration and reduced the support burden. Good documentation, clear error messages and consistent patterns make everyone's job easier.

When you're moving content for the world's biggest entertainment companies, you get one chance to do it right. We built systems that held up.
